So many different methods of teaching.
Of course, I have my own method. It goes to overview really, and my own position after years of training.
My method is somewhat different to most in that I rarely offer ‘direct’ information, preferring to allow ’students’ to draw their own conclusions – which will, I hope, lead them to ask more questions.
I prefer to take the broader overview approach rather than get ‘bogged down’ in too much detail.
For instance:
This “lesson” entails allowing the magic.
Today (Monday, 22 May 06) I checked my friend’s place. She’s away and I have the key.
The back gate was open while two workmen landscaped the back garden. I managed to walk past both of them without them seeing me.
After checking all was well, I left her place and was down the street when I got a feeling to go back and make sure I’d shut the front door properly. I knew I had shut it, but the need to go back and check was strong. So.. I walked back, opened the main door, went down the hall to her door, checked – it was fine – and left.
I walked from there to the post office, checked the mail box, returned yet another junk mail letter to sender, etc…
Coming back from the post office I passed three Irish guys. I could tell they were Irish by their accents. They were turning into a side alley heading towards a carpark. I had to walk between them as they turned the corner.
Unremarkable at the time…
I bought some bread at the local bakery, checked out a dentist – had to walk up a flight of stairs for that, and made my way along Acland Street heading for home.
Instead of taking my usual route, I decided to walk down to the next corner and go past the gardens.
There’s a road running alongside the gardens which makes a T-intersection with the street I was in. As I got there who should come around the corner but those same three Irish guys!
I had to walk between them as they turned the corner.
Synchronicity!
I couldn’t help smiling. One of them ‘got it’ and smiled back.
There was nothing more about that ‘chance’ encounter, except to note that it wouldn’t have happened if I hadn’t gone back to check the front door.
Apart from ‘allowing’ myself to go back and check the door, and the unexpected workmen in the backyard, I had planned the rest of the journey.
Using the same thought process of ‘allowing’…
I won’t go into extreme detail here – an outline should suffice.
Just after I moved to Brisbane (and at the time I had no idea why I was ‘called’ there in the first place), and despite the pain of arthritis, I ‘allowed’ myself to take a part-time job reading Tarot in a book store in the city.
The day I started I met, as if by chance, a young man who was clearly (to me) a Brother on the Path. Not a student of mine in a direct sense at all – but I knew immediately why I had been drawn to that book store.
We chatted for a long time that day.
I didn’t stay at the store for too long. Arthritis bites. However, the contact with the Brother continued.
At first not much happened. I visited him at his covenstead – he visited me at my home.
I didn’t set out to ‘teach’ him anything.
However, I was ‘guided’ to a certain action during his first visit to my place. It so happened that by deliberately leaving him alone the room for a few minutes, and then asking only a couple of relatively non-detailed questions when I returned, he received a clear picture of who he was – and who he wasn’t.
So that when his life-style changed over as it did, he was able to gather himself together and start again with, perhaps, a clearer idea of what he needed to do.
And do it he did!
Since then I’ve watched him grow and prosper.
When I left Brisbane his life was beautifully on track, and the confusion of the huge change-over a dim memory.
Whether or not I had any hand at all in his progress is open to conjecture. However, from my point of view, even though I offered little in the way of direct information, I did deliberately and in friendship offer an open hand, and resistance when necessary, for him. As he did for me. And I thank him for that.
So, in retrospect, my trip to Brisbane resulted in a two-fold outcome for me.
1) I met some wonderful people, and put a band together, which is still going strong since I left.
2) I ‘allowed’ my role as ‘guide’ for a dear friend and fellow seeker. The reason I see it this way is because of the timing of my arrival and my leaving relative to what he went through, and where he is now.
It was not really teaching… but an understanding of synchronous overview and how to use it.
Doors open, close, and open again.
May your days and nights be blessed

I’ve been meaning to get round to this and now I have!
Not enough people read let alone listen … let alone read, listen and take the time out to understand this! *BG*
“It was not really teaching… but an understanding of synchronous overview and how to use it.”
Or indeed living the life that comes of dreaming the dream .. *G*
